Agia Markella

The Ladies Panchiaki Society "St. Markella" of New York is the ladies auxiliary society of the Panchiaki "Korais" Society of New York. It was founded in 1934 with the mission to provide philanthropic assistance to needy individuals and families in our beloved Chios and here in the United States.

We hold small fundraisers throughout the year and rely heavily on caring volunteers to accomplish our charitable endeavors. Our main means of fundraising is by hosting various events including luncheons highlighted by our Annual Vasilopita at the beginning of every year. Over the years we have made donations to many needy institutions including:

  • St. Michael's Home of the Aged - New York

  • Zorzis Mihalinos - nursing home in Chios

  • Silogos Karkinopathon - in support cancer patients in Chios

  • Kivotos Tou Kozmou - camp for orphaned and needy children in Chios

  • many others

Every year the ladies’ society commemorates the feast days of Saints Markella (July 22) and Matrona (October 20) the two "Xiotopolitises" Great Martyrs of Chios by hosting a breakfast following the artoklasia at SS. Constanitine and Helen in Jackson Heights.
