2026 Summer in Chios

Tours and an Evening Honoring Miss Chios

Each summer, members of the Panchiaki Korais Society of New York travel to Chios not only to reconnect with our heritage, but also to witness firsthand the impact of the charitable work made possible through the generosity of our members and supporters.

As part of our 2026 visit, Society members toured two organizations that have benefited from recent grants.

Visiting the Zorzis G. Mihalinos Nursing Home

Our delegation visited the Zorzis G. Mihalinos Nursing Home, where we met with the administration, staff, and residents to learn more about the facility's ongoing needs and the important services it provides to the elderly members of our community.

The visit provided an opportunity to see firsthand the progress made through the Society's recent grants, including our current fundraising initiative to furnish residents' rooms with new bedside tables and make additional improvements that enhance their comfort and quality of life. Meeting with the residents and caregivers reinforced the importance of supporting this treasured institution and the meaningful difference our members' generosity continues to make.

Visiting the AMEA "Gefyra" Facility

The Society also visited the AMEA "Gefyra" Center, where we were welcomed by the administration, staff, and participants of this remarkable organization serving individuals with disabilities.

Members had the opportunity to see the results of previous Society grants, including accessibility improvements and the greenhouse project that has become an important part of the facility's vocational and therapeutic programs. Spending time with the participants and witnessing their enthusiasm and accomplishments served as a powerful reminder of the lasting impact our charitable efforts can have on the lives of others.

An Evening Honoring Miss Chios 2026

The highlight of the weekend was "An Evening Honoring Miss Chios 2026 – Celebrating Chian Heritage," held at the Chandris Hotel in Chios.

Approximately 150 guests attended the event, including the Mayor of Chios, local dignitaries, leaders and representatives of many of the organizations supported by the Panchiaki Korais Society, members of our Society, friends, and supporters from throughout the island and abroad.

The evening celebrated Miss Chios 2026 and Chios Legacy Ambassador, Dimitra-Despina ("Demi") Stathakopoulou, while also raising awareness and support for the Zorzis G. Mihalinos Nursing Home. Guests enjoyed an inspiring program recognizing the Society's philanthropic mission and its longstanding commitment to preserving and strengthening the Chian community.

A special highlight of the evening was a beautiful musical performance by the talented students of the Chios Philharmonic Music Academy, whose inspiring program reflected the exceptional work of one of the many organizations the Society is proud to support.

The event was a wonderful celebration of Chian heritage, philanthropy, and community spirit. Most importantly, it demonstrated how generations of Chians, both on the island and throughout the diaspora, continue to work together to preserve our traditions while investing in the future of our community.

The Panchiaki Korais Society extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who attended, volunteered, performed, sponsored, and contributed to making this memorable weekend such a tremendous success.
