Celebrating the 113th Anniversary of the Liberation of Chios

On November 16, 2025, members of the Panchiaki Korais Society and the Chian Federation came together for our annual commemoration of the Liberation of Chios. On November 11, 1912, Greek forces launched the campaign that, over the course of 40 days, ended centuries of Ottoman occupation and restored freedom to our beloved island.

Our heartfelt thanks to Father Vasilios Louros and the entire community of Zoohodos Peghe Greek Orthodox Church in the Bronx for graciously hosting us.

We are especially grateful to Dr. Fevronia Soumakis for her enlightening presentation, “The Balkan Wars and the Liberation of the Aegean Islands.”

A special highlight of the day was hearing the spirited voices of the community’s children, who beautifully sang the national anthems and Η Ελλάδα Ποτέ Δεν Πεθαίνει. Congratulations to the parish’s Greek Language Program for instilling such pride and excellence in these young students—και στα ανώτερα!
